The petroleum resin is a low molecular weight polymer obtained by cationic polymerization of the C5 and C9 fractions as the by-product of the ethylene plant. According to the different petroleum resins of the raw material, the C5 and C9 fractions can be roughly divided into C5 aliphatic petroleum resins, C9 aromatic petroleum resin as raw material, C5-C9 copolymer petroleum resin with C5 and C9 fractions as raw materials, and DCPD cycloaliphatic petroleum resin and hydrogenated modified petroleum resin.

Petroleum resin softening point is generally 80-140 ¡ãC, the relative density is 0.970 to 0.975. Relative molecular weight less than 2 ¡Á 103, insoluble in water, soluble in organic solvents, with a low acid value, good adhesion, water and chemical resistance and other characteristics. And has the characteristics of regulating viscosity and good thermal stability. Therefore, the petroleum resin can completely replace the rosin resin, terpene resin for hot melt adhesives and pressure-sensitive adhesive tackifier, play to improve the wetting, improve the role of adhesion. The emergence of petroleum resin also solves the natural rosin and terpene resin source is limited, poor thermal stability, expensive and easy to aging and other issues. And the use of 60% mass fraction of petroleum resin can be achieved rosin resin modified hot melt adhesive performance.
